Second Chance at Love
Henry VIII and Katherine of Aragon may have had a fairly strong marriage, but not everything was perfect in the relationship. Katherine was about six years older than Henry, and this age difference started to show as the marriage progressed. Henry had many mistresses, which caused a strain on the marriage. Eventually, Henry grew tired of the marriage, so he began looking elsewhere. His eye caught Anne Boleyn.
Anne Boleyn wasn't what most men would consider beautiful during her time, but her wit and intellect made up for what she was lacking physically. Henry fell in love with Anne, just as many men before him did. Henry wanted to make Anne one of his mistresses, but Anne was smart. She said that she would only be with him if he left his wife and married her. Henry was so in love with her, that he decided to go through with the divorce for her. Getting the divorce proved to be more difficult than he expected, but he was persistent. When the Catholic Church denied his request for an annulment, he created his own Anglican Church and ended the marriage himself. Even though the end of Henry's marriage to Anne was tragic, their early years together were passionate and filled with love and desire.
